About

My artwork uses film and video as a vehicle to create a world of its own. Drawing from an informed history of horror cinema and combining that with more modern points of reference, I hope to create a visual experience that is both thought provoking and humorous. I hope to broach topics of identity, navigating the world from a queer perspective, the ongoing struggle of fitting into boxes that were not made for you. I love blending elements of kitsch and camp with the grotesque and terrifying. I think using the strange and absurd to hone in on a deeper meaning and message can be very impactful, and through my work I hope to find a niche in which my films are a fun experience but also leave the viewer with a new perspective on the world around us. The horror genre in particular tends to have a questionable reputation in terms of its relationship to the art world. It is oftentimes written off as trashy or meaningless, but I think it has the potential to leave a large impact and pose very important questions about our society in a unique and experimental way. I hope through my work I can offer a unique perspective and commentary to the genre of horror, while still drawing influence from films that I love dearly. What I believe makes a film special is the impact it has on its viewers and fans, and the culture around cult films specifically is what inspires me most to create. Art, particularly film, can speak to those that often feel ostracized from society and create a space in which their lives and experiences are not only shown but expanded upon. I believe that the job of the artist is to shine a light on a non-traditional perspective as it is valuable to all of us. I hope within my work I can do this, and inspire others to create in the same way the filmmakers I admire have inspired me.
